If there has been one major pet peeve of the Bollywood audience over the past few years, it has been the concept of remakes. While some remakes tend to work, others were criticized heavily. It was recently announced that producer Anand Pandit will be collaborating with Eros International and Parag Sanghvi to bring the remake of the 2006 film Omkara and the sequel of the 2011 film Desi Boyz. However, netizens were furious, especially upon the announcement of the remake of Omkara.

Talking about the same, trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to his social media handle to announce the same. Netizens soon started hurling brickbats at the Omkara remake project. Take a look at the tweet.

One of the netizens stated, “Omkara remake? Some days later we may hear remake of films released 5 year back.” Another netizen added, “Omkara remake. Honestly they’d be better off making a spin off which is based on Langda Tyagi instead. Or even a prequel to Omkara. A remake makes zero sense & nobody will match what Saif did. Desi Boyz sequel not a bad idea, however Garam Masala sequel would be better.” A user further went on to say, “Why remake Omkara? Adapt another Shakespeare play..or adapt an indian play, even better. This project is doomed.” A netizen added, “The problem is there is no original content in Bollywood it is either remakes or sequels?? Where are the scriptwriters gone?? And then they ask why the movie didn't work.” Another user said, “Omkara ko to chhod do.”

A Twitter user added that no one can replace Saif Ali Khan ’s performance as the baddie Langda Tyagi from the original film. The tweet read, “No one can replace Langda Tyagi, it was iconic by Saif. Rather the entire film was untouchable... Until now. Isi liye gaali khata hain Bollywood.” Well, seems like the project is already receiving not-so-pleasant responses right from its inception.
