Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Richa Chadha condemn controversial perfume ad, call it 'twisted and tasteless'

    A perfume brand has now come under the scanner for its controversial advertisement which is being accused of being in bad taste for women. Not only the netizens are expressing their displeasure over it but also some celebs like Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Richa Chadha, and singer Sona Mohapatra condemned the derogatory concept of the advertisement.

    A perfume brand has now come under the scanner for its controversial advertisement which is being accused of being in bad taste for women. Not only the netizens are expressing their displeasure over it but also some celebs like Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Richa Chadha, and singer Sona Mohapatra condemned the derogatory concept of the advertisement. These celebs called the advertisement ‘twisted and tasteless’ as well as accused it of promoting rape culture.

    Farhan Akhtar took to his social media handle to tweet, “What incredibly tasteless and twisted minds it must take to think up, approve and create these stinking body spray ‘gang rape’ innuendo ads!! Shameful.” Take a look at his tweet.

    On the other hand, Priyanka Chopra reacted to Richa Chadha’s tweet and stated, “Shameful and disgusting. How many levels of clearances did it take for this commercial to be green-lit. How many people thought this was ok? I’m so glad that it was called out and now the ministry has taken it down. Appalling.” Take a look at her tweet.

    Richa Chadha had shared the video of the advertisement and had shared, “This ad is not an accident. To make an ad, a brand goes through several layers of decision-making. Creatives, script, agency, client, casting… DOES EVERYONE THINK RAPE IS A JOKE? Revelatory! This brand, the agency that made this ad need to be sued for the filth they’re serving.” Take a look at her post.

    Singer Sona Mohapatra also expressed her anger with the advertisement. She tweeted, “Theme - Gang-rape. Gagging after I saw it here on my Twitter timeline & wondering if giving them additional publicity is worse.” Take a look at her post.

    The advertisements showcased some derogatory sexual innuendos by men towards a woman on the pretext of promoting a perfume brand. According to a news report in ANI, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has now ordered the ad to be suspended. They have also initiated an inquiry as per the advertising code.
