Ranbir Kapoor reveals Rishi used to test filmmakers; shares how Shamshera director Karan passed with flying colors

After working in several films as an assistant director, Karan Malhotra made his directorial debut with Agneepath in 2012. He got a chance to direct late superstar Rishi Kapoor along with Sanjay Dutt and Hrithik Roshan . Well, a decade later, his third film Shamshera starring Rishi’s actor son Ranbir Kapoor is all set to arrive in theatres. Well, recently Ranbir revealed that his father had warned him about working with the filmmaker. He had called Karan a ‘demanding director’. But did you know the veteran superstar used to test his directors?

In a recent chat with Peeping Moon, Ranbir revealed, “My father was always a big bully and he used to test his directors. If he comes on too strong and the director doesn't hold his own and agrees to everything he says, he knows he has to take over the project. So he always did this testing thing but thankfully, Karan (Malhotra) is such a confident person himself that he always stood his ground.”

Ranbir revealed that even Zoya Akhtar , who worked with his father in Luck by Chance, used to tell him that Rishi Kapoor is a bully and if you don’t stand up to him he will take over the film. Ranbir added, “So this was his way of testing people.” Well we are glad Karan passed Rishi ji’s test with flying colors!

Also starring Sanju baba and Vaani Kapoor in the lead, Shamshera is all set to arrive in theatres on 22nd July. For the first time ever, Ranbir will be seen in a double role-- Shamshera and his son Balli.
