Ranveer Singh is fashion icon in Bollywood like no other. The actor has received both compliments and criticism for his eccentric fashion choices in his career but the star claim it is always how he has been. Ranveer has many red-carpet appearances and photo shoots to prove how he has changed the game when it comes to redefining style and fashion for men and is secure enough as an actor to be able to pull off his risky fashion choices.

During an interview with Anupama Chopra Ranveer spoke at length about how his style sensibilities come as no surprise to people who have known him for a long time and how during his initial years he tried to be different but then decided he’d rather be who he is.

Ranveer while addressing how the fans and the world sees his fashion sensibilities as something out of the box said that it is just how he is. He added, “If you ask my school friends, who went to Learner’s Academy Bandra with me, we have a WhatsApp group also, they aren’t amused or surprised because this is the way I have always been. They’re like ‘this is what we knew about him, now you know it, there’s nothing different’. So I have always been this person.”

He further described one of the turning points for him when he showed up for an interview in a suit paired with Kolhapuri slippers and added, “I was like why I am I trying to fit in when I am not meant to. Let me do me. And I started doing that then and now I am doing just the same thing but it’s actually what I have always been like, beech mein thoda bhatak gaya tha (got lost somewhere in between) but this was me.”

Looking back at one his eccentric endeavors to look fashionable as a child Ranveer revealed how his nani (maternal grandmother) gave him Rs. 150 pocket money and how he decided to spend it on buying a pair of earring for himself and getting a mohawk. He also made a tie and dye ganji (vest) for himself and said it was his look for the summer.

“I have always been into avant garde expression in terms of appearance. Like I love Dennis Rodman, what a style icon, Lady Gaga … so, I like to have fun with it and that’s really the long and short of it. I am just having fun,” Ranveer further explained.
