Superstar Shah Rukh Khan and five of his team members on their arrival from Sharjah in a charter flight were stopped at the General Aviation (GA) Terminal or private terminal of Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport on early Saturday around 12.30 am. They were reportedly stopped by the Air Intelligence Unit of the Customs department after their baggage during examination detected some dutiable items. The total value of the dutiable goods found in the baggage was worth Rs 17.86 lakhs.

According to statements by a senior customer officer, the baggage was carrying an apple iWatch worth around Rs 75,000 and six other empty cases of high-end watches (winders). Shah Rukh Khan's team's representative and his bodyguard Ravi Shankar Singh were asked to come to Terminal T2 for payment of duty. However, the Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge actor along with his team was allowed to leave.

Shah Rukh Khan’s bodyguard Ravi Shankar Singh paid Rs 6.8 lakhs as Custom duty which is 38.5 percent of the goods. However, it was a duty and not the Penalty, clarified a senior customs official. The official further added that there is no red channel or green channel at the private terminal, hence there is no option available for declaring dutiable goods.

The senior official went on to say that it is difficult to ascertain if the flier has any intention of evading duty, hence no penalty is imposed. The official added that every luggage of all the fliers undergoes an examination at the general aviation terminal. This is not the first time that Shah Rukh Khan had a brush with the customs department at the airport. In 2011, the megastar was questioned aggressively by customs officials for carrying excessive baggage and also had to pay a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh. On the work front, Shah Rukh will be seen in the much-awaited film Pathaan .
