'That chhaap is so solid': Archana Puran Singh struggles for role offers other than comedy genre

Actor Archana Puran Singh has acted in several movies like Raja Hindustani, and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and worked in TV shows Shrimaan Shrimati and Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro. However, she became a household name with comedy shows including Comedy Circus and The Kapil Sharma Show . Today, the actress turned a year older and rang in her special moment with her family last night. Recently, in a recent interview, she revealed that she is struggling to shed her comic image and desperately wants to explore her acting craft.

The Kapil Sharma Show judge said that even after two decades of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, she is remembered by her character Ms. Briganza. As an actor, she feels cheated and deprived as the people have only seen just one aspect of her craft. “That chhaap (image) is so solid. Also, a lot of people feel that what should they offer me after Ms Briganza. It’s been almost 25 years since Kuch Kuch Hota Hai released. And the character is still following me. People also feel that I am best suited only for comedy. As an actor, I feel deprived, cheated and I have been left yearning for good roles,” she told Indian Express.

Further, Archana said that she is dying to perform as an artist. “People have seen just one aspect of my craft. I also have a serious side. I can do so much more than just comedy. Main ro bhi sakti hu, rula bhi sakti ho (I can cry and make people cry too). That side of me is yet to be explored but I am sure it will happen one day.” She also went on to recall veteran actress Neena Gupta who once asked directors for work and now in her second innings she is winning praises. “I remember Neena Gupta had once posted on social media seeking work, I guess I will take this opportunity to ask for work from directors and producers,” she added.

Meanwhile, Archana has returned as judge for the new season of The Kapil Sharma Show. She was previously seen in India’s Laughter Challenge along with Shekhar Suman.
