    Over the four-day Memorial Day weekend, fans have shown their love for Maverick and his squad as the movie has broken previous expectations and predictions to gross 160.5 million.

    Beating previous record holder 2007s Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End collection of 139 million by over 20 million and giving Tom Cruise his best opening weekend in his long and illustrious career.

    The sequel to the 1986 classic is also dominating the global box office by collecting another 139.5 million bringing the total worldwide gross to 300 million.

    The movie has a production budget of 170 million and another 150 million on advertisements the movie will need to gross over 400 million to break even, though considering how the movie is doing the studio shouldn't have anything to worry about.

    Tom Cruise was quick to thank fans for their support and love taking to Twitter the actor wrote 

    Thank you to everyone who saw #TopGun: Maverick and helped make it a historic opening weekend.

    Paramount studio is having a great run this year with movies like Sonic the Hedgehog 2, The Lost City, Jackass Forever, and Scream making Top Gun: Maverick their fifth hit of 2022.

    Top Gun: Maverick is directed by Joseph Kosinski and stars Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, and Val Kilmer.

    The movie is currently running in theaters.
