'Underdog' Vijay Varma who was once taunted by family 'tu Shah Rukh Khan nahi hai' pulls off in SRK-produced Darlings

    The recently released Darlings stars Alia Bhatt, Shefali Shah, and Vijay in pivotal roles. While Shefali-Alia plays the mother-daughter duo, Vijay essays Alia’s drunkard husband. Directed by debutant Jasmeet K Reen, the film is also produced by Alia’s Eternal Sunshine Productions.

    Darlings actor Vijay Varma revealed that he took several risks and even ran away from his home to become an actor. His family had objections to his aspirations and sneered at him that he is no Shah Rukh Khan . Well, the actor has finally proved his mettle and pulled off the movie backed by Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment.

    The recently released Darlings stars Alia Bhatt , Shefali Shah, and Vijay in pivotal roles. While Shefali-Alia plays the mother-daughter duo, Vijay essays Alia’s drunkard husband. Directed by debutant Jasmeet K Reen, the film is also produced by Alia’s Eternal Sunshine Productions. Working with SRK’s production house, Vijay got the kind of validation he has been looking for since his ten years of career in Hindi cinema.

    Recalling his struggling days, Vijay told Indian Express, “The underdog who came here ten years ago, is feeling seen right now. I took several leaps, risks, and chances at the cost of almost breaking up my entire family. I ran away from home. So, they all feel a lot of respite now, they feared how I’d pull it off, it is not easy to go to Mumbai and become somebody. I was told ‘tu Shah Rukh Khan nahi hai’, but now Shah Rukh Khan has employed me for his film.”

    Further, the Gully Boy actor added that he can’t afford to repeat his characters what he has done before now that he has a small body of work. Meanwhile, Darlings was recently premiered on Netflix on August 5. The movie has been receiving raving reviews from audiences and critics alike. Besides it, the actor recently wrapped up the shooting of Sujoy Ghosh’s The Devotion of Suspect X. The Netflix film will feature him alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan and Jaideep Ahlawat.
