When Amrita Rao said she's Rakesh Roshan's 'favourite actress' despite having lost the lead role opposite Hrithik Roshan in Krrish

It could have been Amrita Rao in Krrish (2006) opposite Hrithik Roshan instead of Priyanka Chopra. Here's why the actress lost out on the part.

When Amrita Rao said she's Rakesh Roshan's 'favourite actress' despite having lost the lead role opposite Hrithik Roshan in Krrish

Krrish is so far Bollywood’s biggest superhero franchise and there’s no doubt that we have more action awaiting us in the next part which is definitely in the making. Hrithik Roshan will return as Krrish in the fourth film of the franchise but so far it seems highly unlikely that his partner of two films, Priyanka Chopra will be joining him.

As the original Krrish completes 16 years since the film’s release, here’s a fact about the film’s casting that might intrigue you. Originally not Priyanka Chopra but Amrita Rao was the choice to be cast as the leading lady of the project, Priya. The actress also did a photoshoot with Hrithik for the film but after watching Priyanka’s solid performance in Aitraaz the makers quickly approached her to sign on to play Priya in the movie.

Amrita did lose out on the part but not without reason. According to the Vivaah actress, after her first photoshoot with Krrish star Hrithik Roshan, the makers felt that they were lacking in the chemistry department as a lead pair. Amrita made this revelation in 2006 Hindustan Times interview where she also claimed to be a favourite in the Roshan household.

“I must be incredibly lucky,” Amrita Rao told the publication, “since the Roshans (Rakesh, Hrithik, and Suzanne) have adored all of my films and I am their family’s favorite. It’s especially satisfying considering the family is notorious for delivering hit after hit! I may work with them in their next film,” she continued. “And, believe it or not, Rakesh Roshan is a fan of mine (laughs)?” Amrita had added.

Well, the next film the Hrithik and Rakesh Roshan went on to make together was Kites which was directed by Anurag Basu and starred Kangana Ranaut and Mexican actress Barbra Mori. The next instalment in the Krrish franchise was Krrish 3 which released in the year 2013 with Priyanka reprising her roles.

Krrish 4 is now in the pipeline and has been announced by both Hrithik and director Rakesh Roshan and is likely to release in 2024.
