'Why do you have to tell people you are a good actor?': Yami Gautam opens up about networking pressure at Bollywood parties

Yami Gautam is currently on a promotional spree for her recently released investigative thriller, Lost . Directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, the film features her in the role of Vidhi Sahani, a determined crime reporter investigating a missing college student. After the success of A Thursday and Dasvi, this is her third outing in the OTT sphere. In a recent interview, the actress spoke about her low-key profile in Bollywood despite her successful career.

The actress opened up about how socializing at Bollywood parties makes her uncomfortable as she is often told to market herself. Talking about the pressure to network at popular Bollywood parties, she told YouTuber Ranveer Allahabadia, “Why do you have to tell people you are a good actor? But for the longest time I was told to network, and socialise. This isn’t bad, but there are people like me who aren’t comfortable. Why should I go to a party to make a conversation just to get work? If you like it, go ahead — I am not judging.

Further, she added that her contemporaries would also complain about the same but end up being there at the parties. “They would say, ‘I don’t like this, I don’t like parties and I like get togethers…’ and yet they all turn up at the same place. I am not judging anyone. That was the pressure—not the pressure to work.” Not only this, but she also revealed that at some point in life, she considered quitting films and taking up farming as a profession. “This city tests you and breaks you. There was this time in my life — I have a piece of land in Himachal Pradesh, and I thought that I would take up farming, if this film does not work,” she added.

Meanwhile, Lost also stars Pankaj Kapur, Rahul Khanna, Tushar Pandey, Pia Bajpiee, and Neil Bhoopalam in prominent roles. It was released on ZEE5 on February 16.
