Aanand L Rai on failure of Shah Rukh Khan starrer Zero: ‘I knew how to take off, I didn't know how to land’

Ace filmmaker Aanand L Rai gave us an exciting new story in his recently released film Atrangi Re . While most fans were in awe of the incredible performances given by Sara Ali Khan , Dhanush and Akshay Kumar , some trolled the film for trivializing mental disorders. Nevertheless, the filmmaker garnered appreciation for once again thinking out of the box. He gave us a unique, unexpected story to relish, much like his last film Zero which featured Shah Rukh Khan , Anushka Sharma and Katrina Kaif in the lead. Even that film gave us high hopes when we watched the trailer, but it failed to win hearts despite starring a dream team.

In a chat with IANS, Rai opened up about the failure of Zero. He shared that if he is not ready to deal with the extra pressure of expectations from the audience, he should have not signed up for a huge project like Zero. He explained, “Yes, I was working with one of the biggest superstars of our country, Shah Rukh. Making the film itself was an experience and I am proud of the fact that it was one of the original films, an original story. Yes, I took the pressure of Khan's stardom that I shouldn't have. But 'Zero' is not a failure but a learning for me. I knew how to take off, I didn't know how to land!”

Zero followed a unique love triangle where a dwarf named Bauua Singh aka SRK, who couldn’t find a suitable match for himself for the longest time, falls in love with a scientist with cerebral palsy, played by Anushka. However, on their wedding day he runs away when he finds out that he has a chance to meet his dream girl-- Babita Kumari, a Bollywood actress portrayed by Katrina.
