Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi are teaming for an exciting new project with a rather millennial title, Selfiee . The makers announced the film on Wednesday afternoon with a promo where Akshay and Emraan are dancing together to the title track.
While movie is officially yet to go on floors, there are quite a few things about the project which we already know about.
Selfiee is a remake
Bollywood’s affinity for remakes is well known and they are often a sure shot ticket to a hit if done right. Akshay and Emraan’s Selfiee is also a remake of the 2019 Malayalam film Driving License which starred Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu in key roles.
What is Diving License all about?
The 2019 film featured Prithviraj playing a movie star Hareendran who urgently needs his driver’s license renewed and Suraj Venjaramoodu played Motor Vehicle Inspector, Kuruvila Joseph who is a fan of the star and agrees to deliver it illegally. Only the meeting the star and fans don’t hit it off as expected and leads to a disruption of both their personal and professional lives.
In Selfiee, as much as we have gathered from the first promo, Akshay who is dressed in a crisp suit seems to be playing the star and Emraan his adherent fan. We will have to wait and see if the makers go with the diving license plot for or maybe give it a new spin in the Hindi remake.
Raj Mehta to direct
Akshay Kumar who in 2019 delivered the hit Good Newwz helmed by Raj Mehta is all set to reunite with the filmmaker for Selfiee. This will be the first collaboration between Akshay and Emraan and also the latter’s first film backed by Karan Johar. Akshay has in the past work with Karan on Kesari , Good Newwz and Sooryavanshi which were all hits.
Prithviraj Sukumaran to debut as Bollywood producer
Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Akshay Kumar's Cape of Good Films will be co-producing the Hindi remake of Diving License with Prithviraj Sukumaran and producer-distributor Listin Stephen's company Magic Frames who also backed the Malayam original.
Shoot to begin soon
Selfiee just extended Akshay Kumar’s growing list of upcoming projects but according to reports the actor will begin shooting for the project soon after he has wrapped up Ram Setu which is currently filming its last schedule. While the plot for Selfiee looks simple enough it seems unlikely that the film will have extravagant shooting schedules.
