Alia Bhatt's Gangubai Kathiawadi failed to break this record held by Kareena Kapoor led Veere Di Wedding

Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi is earning high praise on social media for bringing the audiences to cinemas and breaking records each day with its box office collection despite the pandemic restrictions. While in five days the movie has managed to set many new records, there is one record that the film missed by a hair which Kareena Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor led Veere Di Wedding still holds.

While the pandemic release Gangubai Kathiawadi has taken over the second spot in the highest opening weekend numbers and displaced Veere Di Wedding to the number 3 position, the Day 1 record of the film still remain untouched.

Kareena Kapoor Khan & Sonam Kapoor starrer Veere Di Wedding had raked in Rs 10.70 crores on the first day of its release which was the biggest opening in the top 10 women centric films that have released.

Producer Ekta R Kapoor had tweeted this on the first day of the film’s opening back in 2018 “We have just got the numbers (box office) hot out of the oven! The all India box office total for 'Veere Di Wedding' is Rs 10.70 crore on day one!" Ekta tweeted.

A double digit on the first day is a big achievement for any female centric movies. In the Top 10 Female Driven movies, the numbers on the opening day of Veerey Di Wedding are higher than the recently launched Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi which earned Rs. 10.50 crores on Day 1.

As for the opening weekend collection, Gangubai Kathiawadi stands second behind Kangana Ranaut ’s Manikarnika : The Queen of Jhansi while Veere Di Wedding is on the number 3 spot.
