Anil Kapoor reveals Oscar winning director Danny Boyle watched his film Taal, but he wasn't Subhash Ghai's first choice for his role

Anil Kapoor took a trip down memory lane celebrating 23 years of the release of Subhash Ghai ’s Taal . The musical starting Aishwarya Rai , Akshaye Khanna and Anil in key roles is one of Bollywood’s most memorable films and marking the special occasion today, the actor who looks like he has barely aged, shared how the film is special for him in more ways than one.

The actor played a music director in the film who falls for the singer played by Aishwarya. While it is Akshaye’s character who ultimately gets the girl, Anil’s performance in the film was hugely appreciated and one of the people loved it happened to Slumdog Millionaire director Danny Boyle.

Anil in his post revealed how the Oscar winning director had cast him in the Hollywood film set in Mumbai after watching Taal. The actor also admitted that his role was originally offered to Govinda but he got lucky when the film ultimately landed in his lap.

Reportedly, Anil on being approached for the film had suggested to Shubhash Ghai to cast Kamal Haasan for his part but later took up the role.

In his post the actor wrote, “23 years of Taal! I will forever be grateful to have been a part of this iconic movie. In many ways, I was destined to do it, as my role was first offered to Govinda but ultimately came to me. It was Taal that Danny Boyle saw and my performance in it that made him offer me Slumdog Millionaire, I thank my lucky stars for the love and support of the phenomenally talented showman @subhashghai1 saab and for 4 hugely successful milestone films with him!”

Anil also shared a few, still from Taal and thanked Subhash Ghai for making him a part of the film which released in 1999. The actor and filmmaker had previously delivered big hits like Meri Jung, Ram Lakhan and Trimruti before eventually working on Taal.
