Badhaai Do: Chum Darang reveals passersby shouted ‘corona’ at her when she was on her way to the audition

The much awaited trailer of Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar starrer Badhaai Do was finally dropped by makers last month and it was even more interesting than fans expected. The film revolves around Shardul and Suman, who decide to enter a marriage of convenience instead of coming out of the closet. Things take an unexpected turn when Suman’s girlfriend comes to live with them. Well, Chum Darang will be seen as Bhumi’s love interest in the comedy drama and by the looks of the trailer and songs, we can tell you that their on-screen chemistry is pretty cute.

In a recent interview with ETimes, Chum revealed that before Badhaai Do she received offers to play characters that stereotyped actors from northeast. She shared, “I was offered such roles, like that of a spa employee, and I was scared that if I agreed to do them, I would be typecast. And this is what actors from the northeast fear. Not just in movies, but in day-to-day life as well, things are not easy. When I was called for my audition for Badhaai Do and this was in March 2020, on my way to the venue, two boys shouted ‘corona’ at me and I started crying. For my audition, I had to do a scene that required me to shout and I could actually do it really well because of that incident.”

Chum called the incident disheartening but added that things are changing now. Talking about how she got Badhaai Do, the actor shared that she saw the casting ad for the film on social media and decided to contact the team. Much to her delight, she gave the audition and things worked in her favor. She bagged the role of the ‘fun girl’ which was challenging, but Chum had no inhibitions.

Well, we are sure Chum’s Bollywood debut will blow the audience away! We can’t wait to see her on-screen with Rajkummar and Bhumi when their film Badhaai Do releases in theatres this week.
