Badhaai Do day 2 box office: Rajkummar Rao, Bhumi Pednekar's film deserves 'badhaai' for showing nearly 65% growth

Bhumi Pednekar and Rajkummar Rao starrer Badhaai Do has taken the bold decision to be the first film to release in cinemas today as the Covid-19 third wave recedes. The movie based on a lavender marriage between the two stars is a comedy crapper introducing another aspect of homosexual relationships.

After 2 days of the movie’s release, Badhaai Do’s collections at the box office seem to be picking up. The movie earned Rs. 1.65 crores on Friday [Day1] and on Saturday showed a growth of 64.85% percent. While given slow start that the film got on Day 1, the Day 2 numbers aren’t huge at Rs. 2.72 crores but it shows promise of further growth which the film and the industry at large could really use.

No film which released during the pandemic in the past two years has managed to show a more than 50% growth in numbers in two days according to Box Office India and Badhaai Do managing to grow by nearly 65% is welcome news. Rajkummar and Bhumi’s film’s growth is reflective of what it used to be like in the pre-pandemic era and that is a turnaround Bollywood is desperate to see.

Badhaai Do opened to rave reviews on Friday even while it had to share the spotlight with Deepika Padukone , Siddhant Chaturvedi, Ananya Panday and Dhairya Karwa starrer digitally released Gehraiyaan in the news space. The movie has been hailed for its bold subject that is in tune with Bollywood growing representation of the LGBTQ community.

With a Sunday still to go and Monday being Valentine’s Day, Badhaai Do can expect more footfalls in cinemas halls.

Badhaai Do has been directed by filmmaker Harshavardhan Kulkarni who previously directed the 2015 movie Hunterrr starring Gulshan Devaiah .
