Bollywood hits rock bottom! Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha, Akshay Kumar’s Raksha Bhandhan open worse than expected

The Rakhi holiday (August 11) had seen two big films released into the theatres namely Raksha Bandhan starring Akshay Kumar and Laal Singh Chaddha headlined by Aamir Khan . There was a lot of banking on these two movies to revive the lull phase of Bollywood currently but alas it seems that the dark clouds are still looming over the Hindi film industry. Both the movies despite starring two superstars and having a huge buzz, failed to work wonders at the box office.

Talking about Laal Singh Chaddha, the movie is a Hindi adaptation of Forrest Gump which starred Tom Hanks in the lead role. The first-day occupancy of the movie turned out to be quite disappointing with only 15 to 20% which was itself a new low for Aamir Khan. Furthermore, the movie opened with just Rs 11 crore on its first day which has made the film Aamir’s one of the most disastrous opening collections of all times. The film has garnered opening collections much lower than the actor’s 2018 film Thugs Of Hindostan which remains one of the biggest flops of his career. The movie has also received mixed reviews from the audience. Well, this is indeed a worrying sign for it.

On the other hand, Raksha Bandhan has witnessed a fate much worse. The Akshay Kumar starrer has only garnered Rs 8 crore on its opening day. The movie has witnessed the lowest opening numbers for Akshay than his previous two releases this year namely Bachchhan Paandey which had earned Rs 13.25 crore on its opening day while Samrat Prithviraj had amassed Rs 10.7 crore on its first day. It very well feels like that this will turn out to be Akshay’s third box office flop in a row. Now, only a fortunate miracle can save the fate of these two films.
