Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt led Brahmastra Part 1: Shiva is out on Disney+ Hotstar after an excellent run in cinemas and has reportedly seen recording breaking traction on the OTT platform. The movie once again became a big trend on Twitter post it’s digital release, however, one user called the movie better than Rishab Shetty ’s Kannada trail blazer Kantara in a comparison and made room for a huge debate.

Kantara which is currently running in cinemas and has been enjoying an excellent run since it’s release pre-Diwali, is also headed for an OTT release later this month. Directed and led by Rishab Shetty, Kantara garnered the attention of the entire nation after its initial Kannada only release. From celebrities to audiences, folks can’t stop raving about Kantara which was released in cinemas in Hindi a few weeks after its initial release in September.

Both films are highly visual and being some of the most talked about pieces of cinema this year, however, as a user called Brahmastra better than Kantara, netizens expressed some rather strong reactions.

Sharing collages with stills from Ranbir’s Brahmastra, the user wrote, “I think #Brahmastra was better than kantara.” The tweet attracted a lot of attention and several fans of Kantara came down heavily on the user for drawing the comparison. While some felt that comparing a big budget film like Brahmastra to a much smaller budget film like Kantara which has gained attention through word of mouth was highly unfair.

Some even felt that the whole comparison was unnecessary in the first place given how different both are. It was emphasised by a few how Brahmastra was heavy on VFX visually while it wasn’t the case with Kantara. Others also debated the stories of both weighing the merits of both films.

Kantara will release on Amazon Prime Video on 14 November, while Brahmastra made its OTT debut on Friday.
