Ranveer Singh ’s Cirkus was released with great fanfare yesterday (December 23) and was touted to be the biggest film as the year concluded. While everyone was expecting that the Rohit Shetty -Ranveer duo will strike magic this time around too, unfortunately, it did not happen. It can be safely said that the movie is Rohit’s worst opening to date when it comes to his filmography.

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film has opened to a poor number of just Rs 3.16 crore. This is an extremely dismal opening for a holiday season and especially for a Rohit Shetty product backed by a superstar like Ranveer Singh. The poor reviews for the film on top of that seem to be making things difficult for it all the more. Take a look at his tweet.

Well, the last two years seem to be a tough one for Ranveer Singh. Despite the actor showing full honesty in his performances, his film Jayeshbhai Jordaar that released in May this year tanked at the box office. And now when all the hopes were on Cirkus, the film being a family entertainer, it has also failed to impress. Last year also despite Singh’s impeccable portrayal of Kapil Dev, his film 83 flopped at the box office.

Talking about Cirkus, the movie sees Ranveer in a double role. It is based on the 1982 film Angoor which is itself inspired by William Shakespeare’s Comedy Of Errors. The film also stars Varun Sharma, Jacqueline Fernandez, Pooja Hegde, Johnny Lever, Sanjay Mishra, and others in the lead roles. Deepika Padukone also makes a cameo appearance in the song ‘Current Laga Re’ wherein she can be seen shaking a leg with her husband Ranveer Singh. Well, now it is left to see whether the movie will be able to redeem itself in the upcoming days.
