Exclusive: Aanand L Rai on casting Akshay, Dhanush & Sara in Atrangi Re: ‘Put them together & you want to call them atrangi’

The story-line and star cast of a film play big roles in attracting the audience to the screen. Filmmaker and visionary Aanand L Rai ’s much awaited Atrangi Re gives us both-- a never seen before love triangle and a quirky cast featuring big names like Bollywood’s Khiladi Akshay Kumar and South superstar Dhanush along with the very talented and gorgeous Sara Ali Khan . We were all excited to see how the film turns out and right after watching the trailer of the musical romantic drama, many fans predicted that Rai will have a hit on his hands.

Well, in an exclusive interview with Desimartini ahead of the release of the film, the director opened up about his beloved ‘atrangi team’. When asked how he came up with such a quirky and exciting cast, Aanand shared, “It’s like, you put them together and you want to call them ‘atrangi’. It’s exactly the title, because of the title and because of the characters, because of the emotions and the kind of emotions of roller coasters they have in them, I wanted these people. And look at their faces, look them in their real life-- they are so atrangi people. They are so.. they will surprise you every minute.”

The filmmaker went on to add, “You meet Sara and she is on to something, mischievous girl. Then get on with Dhanush. Dhanush is again a very deep but quirky man. Akshay sir, you know how he is-- every time on the edge, doing something and you know. Discipline bhi unka waisa waala. And I knew when we were working on the script that we will be needing very atrangi actors for this film.”
