In the interview, James Mangold revealed that he will be incorporating de-aging technology to give the fans an unforgettable opening sequence that shows everyone's favorite archeologist in his prime.

Having a big opening set piece is a trademark of the Indiana Jones franchise is it running away from a giant bolder or falling into a pit of snakes, it is something fans of the franchise expect. So it is understandable why the director wanted to go all out this time.

While the movie is set in the 1960s during the height of the space race between America and the USSR, the opening sequence will take place in the 1940s.

It is clear from the setting that the director wants to pay homage to the early movies in the franchise.

    In the interview Mangold said

"So that the audience doesn’t experience the change between the ‘40s and ‘60s as an intellectual conceit, but literally experiences the buccaneering spirit of those early days… and then the beginning of now. I wanted the chance to dive into this kind of full-on George-and-Steven old picture and give the audience an adrenaline blast!”

The use of De-aging technology in movies has always been a mixed bag, but Harrison Ford himself assured fans, having this to say about it “This is the first time I've seen it where I believe it,”

Joining him the rest of the cast of the movie includes Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Boyd Holbrook, Thomas Kretschmann, Toby Jones, Antonio Banderas, and John Rhys-Davies.

Indiana Jones 5 will hit theaters on June 30, 2023.
