Is a Ram Lakhan remake on cards? Filmmaker Subhash Ghai has this to say about remaking his own film
Filmmaker Subhash Ghari addresses rumours about Ram Lakhan 2, reveals if he is the one remaking his 1989 superhit starring Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff.
Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor’s iconic Ram Lakhan has been in talks of getting remake in Bollywood. A few years ago filmmaker Rohit Shetty had plans of bringing back this Subhash Ghai film with a fresh cast but he later scrapped his plans, however, rumours surrounding Ram Lakhan 2 refused to die down.
In 2020, Jackie and Anil who played brothers Ram and Lakhan in the 1989 superhit film fueled rumours with their social media banter which confirmed that they would soon be reuniting on screen. While they didn’t mention which film would mark their reunion, many fans hoped it would be Ram Lakhan 2.
Filmmaker Subhash Ghai has now addressed reports of remaking Ram Lakhan and said that he has no such plans. The director revealed that his production company has been approached by many filmmakers for remake rights of films like Khalnayak and Karma but he is not keen on remaking his own films.
Subhash told BollywoodLife, "I am not making Ram Lakhan 2. We at Mukta Arts license remake rights to various studios and producers. There are so many producers who are approaching us for Karma, Khalnayak, and so many films' remakes. Main purani filmein wapis banaunga toh jawaan kaise rahunga. I have many new stories, I will make that. If someone else wants to take our old stories, they are most welcome."
In 2017, Rohit Shetty who was keen on making Ram Lakhan 2 had announced that he had shelved the project. The filmmaker had revealed how he wasn’t able to find two stars from the younger generation willing to work with each other and thus he decided to drop the idea.
"No, the Ram Lakhan remake is not happening. Two stars don't want to work together, they just want to promote each other's films. This young lot, they will tweet for each other, but they will not work with each other,” Rohit had told Filmfare in 2017.
Ram Lakhan also starred Rakhi Gulzar, Madhuri Dixit, Dimple Kapadia, Paresh rawal and Amrish Puri in key roles.
