Kiara Advani on Kabir Singh’s infamous slap scene: ‘At the end of the day this is the love of her life; she gives in’

Kiara Advani on Kabir Singh’s infamous slap scene: ‘At the end of the day this is the love of her life; she gives in’

One major reason why Kabir Singh was criticized by the audience was the scene where Kabir, played by Shahid Kapoor , slaps his girlfriend Preeti, portrayed by Kiara Advani . Several viewers slammed makers and felt that the film celebrated toxic masculinity because in the end Preeti forgave Kabir and reunited with him. To top it all up, filmmaker Sandeep Reddy Vanga, who also directed the original Telugu film Arjun Reddy, had stated that if you can’t slap or touch your woman wherever you want, there is no emotion there.

Well, in a recent chat with Bollywood Hungama, Kiara shared that for her the film is a love story. She explained that the thing about love is that it allows you to forgive certain behaviors. Kiara also feels that relationships are very complex and it’s easy for a third person to suggest breaking up and getting out. Talking about the scene, she stated, “After that slap in the interval scene which was blown out of proportion, she (Preeti) leaves the man (Kabir). You don’t see that, you forget about that. The fact that she comes back at the end when he comes back to her, is when a section wanted that she shouldn’t have taken him back.”

She was further quoted saying, “I feel that's what made it all heart at the end when they're confronting each other, and she tells him that 'you f****ed up' basically, but at the end of the day this is the love of her life that is in front of her, and she gives in.” Kiara went on to add that if you take out just one particular scene and blow it out of proportion, then you have not seen the entire film.

Well, different people have different opinions about the scene and the story. For some it is a toxic concept, whereas for others it’s an intense love story. What are your thoughts on the particular slap scene in Kabir Singh?
