Liger takes a beating at the box office, and Mike Tyson forgetting all about the project in viral video isn’t helping at all
Liger marks former professional boxer Mike Tyson’s debut in Hindi cinema. Last year in November, Vijay Deverakonda along with the entire team flew down to LA to shoot his extended cameo.
The past few weeks have been pretty sad for the Bollywood industry thanks to the boycott trend. But we all had some really high expectations from Puri Jagannadh’s sports drama Liger , which not only marks Vijay Deverakonda ’s Bollywood debut but also the beginning of Ananya Panday ’s journey in South cinema. Sadly the film failed to impress audiences as well as critics, bombed at the box office and now the team is massively being trolled on social media.
Liger star Vijay Deverakonda reveals how he handled Mike Tyson ’s punch; Ananya Panday calls him ‘gentle giant’
Another new turn in events, which is not helping the film or its makers, is an old podcast interview of former professional boxer Mike Tyson. As we all know, he made his debut in Indian cinema with an extended cameo in Liger. Vijay and Ananya along with the entire team had even shared behind the scene snaps with the legend when they went to LA to shoot with him. But in this old clip, which has resurfaced on the internet, Mike has apparently forgotten all about Liger.
Later in the clip, where he seems to be under the influence, Mike remembers shooting with an actual Liger. He goes on to share that the animal weighs over 900 pounds. However, the fact that he initially forgot about his Bollywood debut has given trolls another reason to mock the film. In the comment section below, one individual wrote: “he forgot, but now we are unable to , giving nightmares”, while another comment read: “Good that he forgot about it. This movie is released this week here in India, and its hot shit.”
However, a few have also come out in support of the industry. For instance, one fan wrote: “When this video was made mike Tyson didn't even act in liger movie, it was just an idea then but later they made him act in the movie after this interview, so no wonder he didn't know.”
