Matka OTT release date: Here's when and where to watch Varun Tej’s period drama film on gambling

Varun Tej’s Matka is all set for OTT release! Directed and written by Karuna Kumar, Matka is loosely inspired by real events in the life of Matka King Ratan Khetri. Upon its initial release, the film received a mixed reception from audiences. While Varun Tej’s performance was widely praised, the screenplay faced criticism. After a lukewarm theatrical run, the film is now gearing up for its OTT release.

Amazon Prime recently announced that the Varun Tej-starrer Matka will be available for streaming on the platform starting December 5, 2024. The platform shared the announcement, stating:

“Risk, reward & gamble — MATKA Vasu is the ringmaster who rules them all 👑 #MatkaOnPrime, December 5.”

The film will be available for streaming in multiple languages, including Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Hindi.

Matka theatrical reception

Upon its theatrical debut, Matka received a lukewarm response from audiences. While Varun Tej's performance and the period setup were appreciated, some viewers criticized the film as a predictable and clichéd rags-to-riches drama, with limited engaging moments beyond a few gang-related sequences.

The mixed reception impacted its box office performance, as the film failed to gross even ₹4 crores against its ₹50 crore budget.

The film is expected to reach a wider audience following its OTT release.
