Mr Bachchan; Double iSmart
Telugu cinema lovers got to witness two of the most anticipated releases this Independence Day—Mr. Bachchan and Double iSmart, which clashed at the box office. Unfortunately, both Telugu films have been generating less buzz at the box office and have been failing to attract significant number of viewers. Here’s the complete report on the films’ box office collection for day 4:
Mr Bachchan vs Double iSmart box office collection
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the Ravi Teja-starrer opened with single-digit numbers on its first day, despite the team celebrating the film's 'success'. On its opening day, the vintage action drama earned Rs 3.45 crore and has been struggling to attract audiences. On day 4, the film minted Rs 1.03 crore, bringing its total collection to Rs 8.24 crore at the domestic box office. The film had an average Telugu occupancy of 41.18 percent.
On the other hand, Ram Pothineni and director Puri Jagannadh’s Double iSmart grossed Rs 4.17 crore across all languages on day 1 and has now earned approximately Rs 1.07 crore, bringing its total collection to Rs 11.22 crore. The movie also had a low occupancy rate of 20.94% on Sunday (day 4).
Judging by the trends, Telugu audiences have been flocking to theaters in great numbers to watch Tamil films like Thangalaan and Demonte Colony 2, while the major Telugu releases have not seen much footfall. Despite the big budgets and star power leading the projects, these films have received criticism from audiences for offering mediocre content. Puri Jagannadh, who had pinned all his hopes on Double iSmart after his major flop Liger, is set to face yet another massive loss with Ram Pothineni’s film. Ravi Teja, who has been witnessing a string of losses in recent years, has another film to add to his list of flops.
Plots of Mr. Bachchan and Double iSmart
Directed by Harish Shankar, Mr. Bachchan is the official remake of Raid (2018), which revolves around an honest income tax officer’s mission to tackle a corrupt businessman. On the other hand, Ram Pothineni’s Double iSmart centers on an assassin who has a chip implanted in his brain.
