Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway Trailer: Rani Mukerji as a mother battles faulty foster-care system in foreign land, fails to make impact with Bengali accent

After playing a con artist in Bunty Aur Babli 2, Rani Mukerji has slipped into an emotionally taxing character of a mother in her upcoming film, Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway . The film is based on the true story of an Indian couple whose kids were taken away from them by Norwegian welfare services in 2011. The much-anticipated trailer of the film has been finally unveiled and it shows Rani as a Bengali mother who has moved from India to start a new life in Norway.

The trailer opens with Rani introducing herself as Debika and her husband Mr.Chatterjee, and kids Shubh and Suchi in a Bengali accent. The family is then seen celebrating their Indian traditions and culture with love. But their happy life gets hit hard after Norwegian welfare services take their children into custody saying that they are unable to take good care of them. Then enters Jim Sarbh in the role of a lawyer who fights in favour of the mother but things get difficult after her Indian upbringing is questioned in the court. Later, a faulty foster-care system in the foreign land is shown that takes away kids to make money, and even the struggle of cultural differences is highlighted in the short clip. Toward the end, Rani fights against the nation to get back her children where she is also heard saying, “Ye desh ka matter, inko lagta hai humara bheekari desh hai with no culture” which will surely strike a chord with the audience.

Going by the trailer, Rani perfectly fits into the role of a mother, more with her physical appearance. Also, her unimpressive Bengali accent may become a factor that will affect the audience’s interest. Well, talking about the trailer, Rani has told Variety, “Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway’ is very special. I can’t wait to see the reactions of my fans on the trailer.”

Bankrolled by Zee Studios, Nikkhil Advani’s Emmay Entertainment, Monisha Advani and Madhu Bhojwani, the film is slated to hit theatres on March 17.
