Pathaan director Siddharth Anand reveals why he chose the infamous saffron bikini for Deepika in Besharam Rang

When the track Besharam Rang from Pathaan was launched by the makers, it won many hearts. Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone ’s on-screen chemistry was sizzling whereas latter’s dance moves and the foot-tapping music left fans wanting more. But another reason why the track made headlines was one particular swimsuit worn by Deepika-- the orange bikini. There were many netizens who accused the makers of hurting religious sentiments and demanded a boycott on social media. However, Deepika and Shah Rukh along with the makers kept their lips sealed and the film emerged as a blockbuster on release.

Well, director Siddharth Anand has finally broken his silence on the major controversy. While talking at News18 Rising India summit 2023, the filmmaker stated, “We were not scared. We knew that there was nothing objectionable in our film.” He went on to explain, “When we were in Spain, I chose that costume randomly. We never gave it a too much thought. The colour was looking nice. It was sunny, the grass was greener and the water was blue and the orange colour was looking good. We thought when the audience would watch it they would understand that our intent was not wrong.”

Siddharth further shared that he does not blame netizens and knows that it is easy to ask for a boycott without reason, because they had not watched the film. But he went on to point out that fans rushed to their nearest theatres when Shah Rukh’s comeback film arrived on the big screen. Well, that is definitely true. The craze behind Pathaan was unreal. The action entertainer not only broke several records at the box office but also became the highest grossing film of King Khan’s long and fruitful career.
