Ponniyin Selvan 2: Indian 2 director Shankar shares praise for Mani Ratnam's saga

    Ponniyin Selvan 2 is one of the most critically and commercially successful movies of 2023 and now director Shankar took to Twitter to praise Mani Ratnam and his team.

    The director also heaped praise on Vikram and Aishwarya Rai for their performances as Aditha Karikalan and Nandini.

    Currently, Shankar is busy preparing for the next schedule of Indian 2, which will have a cameo from RRR star Ram Charan.

    Indian 2 is the sequel to the 1996 vigilante thriller and was the highest-grossing movie of the year, The movie was India's official entry for the Oscars that year and also won three National Awards including Best Actor.

    In the movie, Kamal Haasan played the role of Senapathy a former freedom fighter turned vigilante who wants to root out corruption.

    Indian 2 had to face multiple delays in its production the first due to the pandemic, followed by an accident on the sets, and finally over a dispute with the producers of the movie.

    It was only after the success of Kamal Haasan's Vikram, which went on to not only be one of the biggest hits of 2022 but also one of the biggest hits of the actor's career that Indian 2 found its second wind.

    According to a new report the makers of the movie are planning on a 2024 Pongal release for the movie which means it will clash with Prabha's science fiction movie Project K and Suriya's period drama Kanguva.

    As for Ponniyin Selvan 2, the movie has just become the third highest-grossing movie of 2023 by grossing 260 crores at the end of six days.

    The movie has so far grossed 130 crores from the Indian markets and the reaming 130 from international markets where it remains in the top 5 in the U.K, Australia, and U.S.A.

    Ponniyin Selven boasts of an ensemble main cast that includes Vikram, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, Trisha, Jayaram, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Sobhita Dhulipala, and Prabhu.
