Filmmaker Rakesh Roshan has only made films with son Hrithik Roshan in the past two decades. After their first time partnership on Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai turned out to be a blockbuster and turned the actor who had debuted in Bollywood with the film an overnight star, Rakesh Roshan only every decided to direct him.
Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai was a one of a kind romantic drama and Hrithik not only played two characters in the movie to perfection, he became a dancing sensation and a style icon, all in one go with the project. However, before Hrithik it was Shah Rukh Khan who was Rakesh Roshan’s go to star.
Rakesh had collaborated with SRK on films like Kind Uncle, Karan Arjun and Koyla and also had the actor in mind for Kaho Naa … Pyaar Hai when he was working on the original draft of the film. Shah Rukh who had multiple commitments to keep at the time couldn’t do the film and it was Hrithik who convinced his father to work with a fresh face on the film instead of chasing the Khans. Rakesh chose to launch Hrithik with the film.
Well, after the success of the project, Rakesh Roshan did not work with any other actor and has made films like Koi Mil Gaya and the Krrish films with Hrithik.
The filmmaker was asked why he never worked with Shah Rukh Khan again in an interview once and he had said, “After Koyla, I did not cast Shah Rukh Khan in any film because Hrithik Roshan had come into films by then (laughs), so I made Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai with him. Had Hrithik Roshan not been in films, I would have kept making films with Shah Rukh.”
