RRR, Kantara, and Gangubai Kathiawadi make it to the Oscars shortlist for the 95th Academy Awards

Its good news for Indian movies at the Oscars this year as movies like SS Rajamouli's RRR , Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubai Kathiawadi , and Rishab Shetty's Kantara have managed to find a spot in the shortlist of eligible movies released by the Academy.

Movies like Me Vasantrao, Tujhya Sathi Kahi Hi, R Madhavan's Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, and Iravin Nizhal also managed to make the list.

What this means is that these movies are qualified to compete in different Oscar categories at the 95th Academy Awards and while this does not guarantee a nomination is nonetheless a step in the right direction.

Of these movies like Chhello show, India's official selection for the Oscars and RRR have managed to be get shortlisted in the Best Internation Feature and Best Original Song categories respectively.

Currently SS Rajamouli's epic action movie RRR seems to be the best contractor to a nomination for Best Picture thanks to how well the movie is doing at this year's Hollywood award season and its massive popularity.

Having already secured two Golden Globe nominations at this year's Golden Globes which will be held live tomorrow. And is also shortlisted for a BAFTA Award.

The movie has so fared managed to win a total of 12 awards from various film festivals in the United States including The Saturn award, the Los Angeles Film Critics Association, and the Hollywood Critics Association Awards.

The last Indian movie to be nominated for an Oscar was the 2001 movie Laagan, which was directed by Ashutosh Gowariker and starred Amir Khan in the lead role.

The Academy member will start voting for the final list of nominees in each category on January 12, 2023, with the final day of voting on January 17th and the final list of nominees being announced on January 24, 2023.

The voting process for the final list of winners will begin on March 2nd and end on March 7th with the winners being announced live at the 95th Academy Awards presentation which will be hosted by Comedian Jimmy Kimmel and held on March 12, 2023.
