Samrat Prithviraj box office Day 5: Akshay Kumar's historical drama struggles to stay afloat, Shows being cut down due to low occupancy

Despite the hype around Akshay Kumar ’s Samrat Prithviraj , the film failed to draw audiences at the ticket window. The period drama, which was released on June 3, has so far managed to earn around Rs 48 crore according to early estimates. Due to its average box office business, the film’s show is being reported to be cut down or cancelled.

The historical drama opened at Rs 10.70 crore and managed to pick up well on the following Saturday and Sunday, amounting to Rs 39.40 crore on its first weekend. However, on Monday, it saw a sharp decline earning less than 50 percent of its opening collection. Even on Tuesday(Day 5), the film’s occupancy dropped and it reportedly earned just Rs 4.40 crore. The total domestic box office collection stands at Rs 48.80 crore approximately.

According to Bollywood Hungama , Akshay’s film witnessed low business in Mumbai, Kolkata, and Bengaluru, however, Delhi was marginally better. “The metros with a high density of multiplexes and higher ticket rates underperformed on the first three days and hence these theatres are performing poorly from Monday onwards,” said a source close to the news portal.

The film was expected to make big moolah at the box office. However, it is likely to earn just around 56 crore nett in the coming weeks as per boxofficeindia.com. “Samrat Prithviraj has seen a drop in collections on day four as it collects around the 5 crore nett which is over 50% down from the first day. There is a better hold in circuits where it was doing better over the weekend but other places are seeing falls in the 55-60% range. It could have decent final figures in the likes of Rajasthan and CI but it won't change the overall picture.”

Directed by Dr. Chandraprakash Dwivedi, Samrat Prithviraj is based on the life of the brave King Prithviraj Chauhan who fought against the merciless invader Muhammad of Ghor. Akshay plays the titular role of the legendary warrior. Manushi Chhillar features as Prithviraj’s beloved Sanyogita. Besides them, the film also stars Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood in prominent roles. Produced by Yash Raj Films , the film was released in three languages- Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu on single-screen and multiple screens cinemas across the country.
