Sara Ali Khan’s love triangle with Akshay & Dhanush in Atrangi Re not a ‘feminist movement’: “There’s no entitlement; there’s only innocence”

The trailer of Aanand L Rai ’s Atrangi Re took quite folks by surprise as it showed Sara Ali Khan losing her heart to two men, Akshay Kumar and Dhanush , at the same time. While this love triangle is a refreshing break from films where we have seen heroes juggle girlfriends, the actress who plays the vivacious Rinku in the movie, has said that this ‘atrangi’ love triangle in the movie is not to be mistaken to be a part of some ‘feminist movement’.

The trailer shows Sara’s family forcefully getting Dhanush to marry her but she later falls in love with him. She is also shown to have always been in love with Akshay Kumar’s character and in a part of the trailer once can see her loudly expressing her thoughts wondering why she can’t have them both.

Sara, however, feels that Rinku falling for two men is coming from a place of innocence and denies that the film is taking a feminist stand while showing a love triangle with her at the center of it. She tells News 18, “At least for me, this is not a feminist movement,” she said.

Talking further about this rather unconventional plot twist she added, “This is not a protest. I don’t think we’re trying to take a societal stand. It is about everybody, whether it’s a guy or a girl. Rinku just happens to be a girl. It’s about love, wanting love and being honest and innocent. The one thing that Aanand ji was very clear about is no matter what lines I’m saying including ‘ek baar ek ladki ko dono mil jaayenge toh kya aafat aa jayegi’— there’s no insolence in that; there’s no entitlement; there’s only innocence in the way she’s saying that. And to me, it’s very interesting.”

It is evident from the trailer that Sara as Rinku is the lifeline of the film. It marks Sara’s debut collaboration with Aanand L. Rai and presents her in never seen before avatar which the fans are totally loving.

Atrangi Re arrives on Disney + Hostar on 24 December.
