Despite the positive pre-release buzz, Akshay Kumar starrer Selfiee underperformed on the first day of release. Though the film has all the elements of drama, comedy, emotions, and action, the moviegoers are not much impressed. Regarding the second-day collection, the film has earned over Rs 3 crore as per early estimates.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh said the film has collected Rs 1.83 crore at national chains. The movie earned between Rs 64 and Rs 87 lakh on the first Friday and Saturday at PVR chains. The movie has a business in the range of Rs 43 lakh to 60 lakh in INOX and 23 lakh to 36 lakh in Cinepolis. According to Sacnilk.com, the film collected approximately Rs 3.30 crore on its second day, while the film made lackluster earnings of Rs 2.55 crore on its opening day.

Directed by Raj Mehta, the film is an official Hindi remake of the Malayalam movie Driving License. Akshay plays a superstar who has a face-off with his die-hard fan played by Emraan Hashmi . The movie’s poor performance has left trade analysts and others introspecting as to what could be the reason behind this ‘unwarranted gloom’ at the box office. "Selfiee's start has truly sent shock waves within the fraternity. It has two major stars Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi and despite doing promotions across the country, the opening is not up to the mark,” producer Girish Johar told Etimes.

Selfiee’s low box office business has led netizens to question Akshay’s choice of films after consecutive flops last year. Amid this social media bashing, producer Ekta Kapoor came out in his support. "Akshay Kumar is the most reliable, dependable actor to work with!!! Depressing tabloid culture of bringing someone down to highlight his lows is a hugeeeeee low in itself!! #insensitive,” she wrote on Instagram.
