Shahid Kapoor wants to do a dance film, but this is what pushes him back

Actor Shahid Kapoor has carved a niche for himself in almost two decades of his Bollywood career. Not only known for his stellar performances, but the actor has also gained popularity for his unmatchable dancing skills. Besides performing in his movie songs, he had also done a dance film Chance Pe Dance back in 2010. Lately, the actor has not been able to show his love for dance in any of the movies he has been part of in the recent past.

In a recent interview with Bollywood Hungama , Shahid opened up about one of his key strengths as a performer, his dancing. He said he would love to do a film where he can dance and which suits the storytelling. However, he also mentioned that the films belonging to that genre usually don’t turn out to be good.

He said, “I like to perform every chance I get, but for the past 6-7 years I have not done a film that has songs which feature me performing. Because, kai baar kya hota hai ki film mein gaana isliye daal do kyunki Shahid ek achcha dancer hai, but jo film ki kahani hai, character hai, kya uske liye sahi hai? (There have been many times in the past when it has happened, that a song has been put in the movie just because the makers feel I dance well. But they don’t see at that point whether that song suits the narrative of the film, or even my character).

“So, I want to approach that thing in a more pure way. Genuinely, I have been searching for a film where I can dance, and where dancing feels like a natural element of the film. But usually uss genre ki filmein kaafi kharab hoti hain yaar (But the films belonging to that genre usually turn out to be so bad),” he added.

Currently, the actor is busy promoting his much-awaited film, Jersey , a Hindi remake of the Telugu film of the same name, directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri. The film was earlier supposed to release in December last year, owing to the Omicron wave of Covid-19 the film was postponed indefinitely. Besides Shahid, the film also stars Mrunal Thakur and Pankaj Kapoor in key roles. It is slated to release in theatres on April 14.
