Shahid Kapoor starrer Jersey was eyeing New Year’s Eve for arrival until the third wave of Covid-19 delayed these plans indefinitely. With the Omicron threat, January 2022 has already been compromised and now the makers of Shahid’s sports drama seem to have their eyes set on February for release.

Jersey has been passed by the Censor Borad of Film Certification (CBFC) for release with a U/A certificate with a lengthy run time of 2 hours 55 mins. With the Censor Board’s nod for the movie, the makers are eyeing two dates in February, and Jersey will arrive in cinemas on either 18th or 25th of the month depending on what date is finally settled on.

Assuming normalcy returns, on each of these two dates Jersey will have competition. On 18 February is Alia Bhatt starrer Gangubai Kathiawadi lined up for release which has been directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali . On the other hand, on 25th there is Ranveer Singh starrer Jayeshbhai Jordaar which has been long delayed now.

Jersey makers have already contemplated the digital route but apparently Shahid Kapoor is certain about the movie’s theatrical success and had convinced the producers to hold onto the film through the third wave despite handsome offers from streaming platforms. The movie has already completed a round of promotions in December and holding it off for longer isn’t also an option so facing competition will have to be it.

Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri who also helmed Nani’s 2019 Telugu original, Jersey is the story of man who gives his dreams of being a national level cricketer player another shot for the sake of his family. Shahid Kapoor returns to the big screen with the movie after tasting thunderous success in 2019 with Kabir Singh.

Jersey also stars Pankaj Kapur and Marunal Thakur in key roles.
