Ranbir Kapoor starrer period drama Shamshera hit the theatres on July 23 and the movie had a lot of expectations banking on it. Alas! It proved to be a major disappointment especially when it came to the box office collections. The film not only had a poor opening on its first day but it also refused to pick up the pace on its first weekend.

Talking about the same, Shamshera opened with a collection of only Rs 10.25 crore on its first day which was extremely meager given its humongous budget of Rs 150 crore. While one thought that due to positive word of mouth, the movie might gain momentum in its 2nd and 3rdday, it miserably failed to do so. Now according to the early estimates on Newsable Asianet, the Ranbir Kapoor starrer has earned Rs 10.40 crore on its third day.

Now the total collections of Shamshera stand at Rs 30.80 crore. This is still very insufficient for the Ranbir Kapoor starrer which is mounted on such a huge scale. The film earned only Rs 10.25 crore on its second day. The film was expected to open at least Rs 14 to Rs 15 crore but the result was very disheartening.

Shamshera was reportedly given 4300 screens nationwide but still, the movie failed to garner a suitable opening collection. The film marks Yash Raj Films ’ third flop after Ranveer Singh ’s Jayeshbhai Jordaar and Akshay Kumar starrer Samrat Prithviraj . The Ranbir Kapoor film is most likely to finish with a lifetime of Rs 50 crore and is a sure-shot box office fail.

Talking about Shamshera, the movie also stars Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor in the lead roles. The film has been helmed by Karan Malhotra . Ranbir Kapoor essays a double role in the movie, that of a father and son who turn rebellious dacoits to free their tortured tribe Khameran.
