Shazam! Fury of the Gods was originally supposed to hit the big screen this year in December but was pushed back to 2023 by the studio. This is most likely to avoid competition with James Cameron's Avatar: The Way of Water.

Director David F. Sandberg took to Twitter to announce that the final cut of the movie is complete and now it's time for him to take a well-needed break.

The recent release of Black Adam and its larger implications for the future of the DCEU could also have played a part as to why it took so long for the movie to finish up.

We know for a fact that Wonder Woman will have a cameo in the movie and now there is a strong possibility there will be another featuring Black Adam himself.

Originally Black Adam was supposed to appear in Shazam! but Dwayne Johson insisted that the character be given a proper origin story and not be cramped into Shazam.

This turned out to be a good idea as Shazam and now Black Adam was a good payoff for the studio.

In the sequel, Billy Batson and the rest of the Shazam family face off against the Daughters of Atlas Hespera played by Helen Mirren, and Kalypso played by Lucy Liu.

The cast of the movie includes Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Rachel Zegler, Adam Brody, Ross Butler, Meagan Good, Lucy Liu, Djimon Hounsou, and Helen Mirren.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods will hit theaters on March 17, 2023.
