Shehzada: Kartik Aaryan threatened to quit if Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo’s Hindi version hit theatres

Just last week it was announced that the Hindi dubbed version of Allu Arjun and Pooja Hegde ’s super hit Telugu film Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo will hit theatres on Republic Day. Fans were over the moon with joy but this news left the makers of Shehzada worried about how the theatrical release will affect their Hindi remake of the action drama. Helmed by Rohit Dhawan, the film features Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon in the lead. Well, a few days later it was reported that Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo’s Hindi version will now arrive on television instead of the big screen.

In a recent chat with India Today, producer Manish Shah who has the rights to the film’s Hindi-dubbed version revealed why this step was taken. He was quoted saying, “The makers of Shehzda were not keen to release the Hindi version in cinemas. Also, Kartik Aaryan said if the movie was released in theatres, he would walk out of the film, which would have caused Shehzada producers a loss of Rs 40 crores. It was extremely unprofessional of him.” Shah explained that he didn’t want the producers of Shehzada, who he has known since a decade, to lose so much money and hence decided to drop the idea.

But not releasing the film would mean a major loss for the producer himself, so he finally decided to premiere Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo’s Hindi version on his television channel instead. He apparently wanted the film to be bigger than Pushpa: The Rise, which grossed over 350 crore at the box office. Shah further stated, “I would not have done anything for Kartik Aaryan, I only did this because of Allu Arvind. Why would I do this for a Bollywood hero? I don't know him.”

Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo’s Hindi version will now premiere on Goldmines Telefilms' TV channel Dhinchaak on 6th February.
