Silambarasan's next project 'STR49' will be produced by Kamal Haasan and has a budget of 100 crores

Simbu's first project with director Desingh Periyasamy has entered pre-production, and the project will have the actor play a double role.

The movie is produced by Kamal Haasan and reportedly has a massive budget of 100 crores. The movie is a period drama.

STR49 will be Desingh Periyasamy's second movie, he made his directorial debut in 2020 with the romantic-comedy Kannum Kannum Kollaiyadithaal.

The movie starred Dulquer Salmaan, Ritu Varma, Rakshan, and Niranjani Ahathian and was a critical and commercial success, no doubt that the director wants to recreate the success of his first project this time as well.

Simbu who made a comeback in 2021 with Eeswaran after a series of lackluster movies has delivered back-to-back commercial and critical hits like Maanaadu and Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu.

The actor is also currently working on a project titled Pathu Thala with director Obeli N. Krishna. The movie is a gangster flick and Simbu will be sharing the big screen with Gautham Karthik and Priya Bhavani Shankar.

The actor will also be teaming up with director Venkat Prabhu for a second time, the duo's last movie was the 2021 sci-fi thriller Maanaadu.

The movie was a massive success having grossed over 117 crores at the box office. There are plans for a sequel as well and the news that the duo will be working together has fans wondering if the project is the highly anticipated sequel to Maanaadu.

The shooting for STR49 is expected to start in July and the actor is currently in Bangkok where he undergoing martial arts training for the role.

The movie is produced by Kamal Haasan under the banner of Raaj Kamal Films. The producers have roped in composer Anirudh to do the music.

Meanwhile, Pathu Thala will be hitting theaters worldwide this month. The movie boasts of an ensemble cast that includes Gautham Karthik, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Teejay Arunasalam, Kalaiyarasan, and Redin Kingsley.

Pathu Thala will relase on March 30, 2023.
