The DCEU has been finally shaping up thanks to the appointment of James Gunn and Peter Safran taking over as the new co-heads of DC Studios Gunn who is known for keeping fans in the loop via social media revealed what the duo has planned.

Taking to Twitter Gunn confirmed the rumor that going forward both live-action and animated movies and shows will be connected. In the past, both animated DC movies and their live-action counterparts have moved in different directions.

And unlike the mixed reception that DC movies receive at the box office, the animated movies have mostly been well received by critics and fans and follow a story arc different from the DCEU.

So going forward they will have to reboot both the animated and live-action DCEU, which will be no simple task but considering James Gunn's and Peter Sarfan's track record the task is in safe hands.

An interesting thing to note here is the fact James Gunn did also confirm that there will be video games that are connected to the larger plot of the DCEU.

In the past, movie tie-in games were common but nowadays that has changed a bit with superhero-based video games following their own original storylines separate from their live-action counterparts.

The most recent example is Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy game and DC's Gotham Knights.

There is a reason for this shift in the video game industry mostly because of the widespread negative reaction that old movie tie-in games received from critics and fans alike.

Many felt rushed as they have to be released around the same time as the movie, would make its big screen debut thus making them at best a one-time experience and at worst an unplayable disaster.

So it will be a big task bringing together all these different formats spread across various media into a unified version of the DCEU, but it is this larger-than-life vision for DC superheroes that their fans have been waiting for.

As for now, we can expect the next DCEU movie Shazam! Fury of the Gods is to hit theaters on 17 March 2023.
