The Kashmir Files Release on YouTube: From Arvind Kejriwal to Sanjay Singh, here's who said what

Ever since Vivek Agnihotri ’s The Kashmir Files was released, the film has been a topic of discussion and debates all over the country. In a recent development, several political leaders across the nation including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal have demanded the makers to release the film on Youtube.

Based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits in 1990, the film has garnered a lot of appreciation and support from prominent leaders and made tax-free in several states including Uttar Pradesh, Goa, Tripura, Haryana, and Uttarakhand. The hotly debated drama has so far crossed Rs 200 crore at the box office.

Now, Aam Aadmi Party MP Sanjay Singh has demanded the film to be released on Youtube and Doordarshan in Rajya Sabha. He also said that the money earned from the film should be used in the rehabilitation of the Kashmiri pandits in his letter to Rajya Sabha Secretary-General.

Also, Yoga guru Baba Ramdev urged the filmmakers to release the movie on both YouTube and Facebook so that people can know what happened in Kashmir in 1990. He said the movie has earned a lot, and now it’s time to upload it on social media platforms. “Everyone should also know what happened in Kashmir,” Ramdev told TimesNow.

Earlier, Arvind Kejriwal has mockingly suggested the makers of the movie upload the film on YouTube over the demand of making the film tax-free in Delhi. While attacking the BJP government, Kejriwal had said that if the government wants everyone to watch the film, filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri should release it on YouTube so that it is available to everyone for free. “We demand 'The Kashmir Files' film to be uploaded on YouTube. The money earned from it should be spent on the welfare of Kashmiri Pandits,” he said during the post-budget press conference on Saturday.

Kejriwal’s remarks over the film attracted criticism from Vivek Agnihotri, actor Anupam Kher, and others on social media. Reacting to his remarks, the filmmaker in an interview with Firstpost, said he would rather concentrate on the crores of people watching the film instead of 20 politicians who are professional abusers.

On the other hand, Anupam took to Twitter and asked everyone to watch the film in theatres. “Now friends go and see #TheKashmirFiles in Sinma Hall itself. You guys have known the grief of #KashmiriHindus after 32 years. You have understood the atrocities done to them. Have sympathized with them. But those who are making fun of this tragedy. Please make them feel your power,” he wrote.

Meanwhile, after the tremendous success of The Kashmir Files, Vivek Agnihotri has planned to work on The Delhi Files . "We are doing 'The Delhi Files'. As far as the web series is concerned, I don't have to do much because we have almost all the material we need because we shot most of it. That's going to be interesting, but somebody has to fund it,” the filmmaker told ETimes.
