The Matrix Resurrections sequels not in development confirms producer James McTeigue
It seems that we wont be seeing Neo or Trinity on the big scrren anytime soon as producer of The Matrix Ressurections confirmed no sequels are planned
The movie only made a disappointing 22.5 million dollars domestically in the U.S. on its opening weekend and so far has only grossed over 68 million worldwide not even covering its 190 million dollar budget.
So it comes as no surprise to why the studio would not want to continue the franchise, recently actor Keanu Reeves also commented that no new movies in the franchise were in development as well.
In a recent interview with Collider producer James McTeague spoke about the future sequels for Resurrections he said "Look, for us, I think, at the moment, it's just the movie you've seen. We've got no prequel in mind. We've got no sequel in mind. We've got no further trilogy."
He went on to say that exploring new ideas in the franchise is not impossible. "I think the film also works where it's really open to audience interpretation, like what happened in those 60 years before they fished Neo out again, or Thomas Anderson to Neo," McTeigue said. "When Neo and Trinity are there at the end, and they're talking with the analyst, what do they actually mean that they're going to change? So I think that it's out there, but it's not in our wheelhouse at the moment," he added.
The makers clearly seem to have ideas to continue the plot but the question is whether these ideas will get a clearance from Warner Bros. after the lukewarm response that The Matrix Resurrections has received.
For now, the fans of Keanu Reeves have John Wick 4 to look forward to which announced its 2023 arrival soon after The Matrix arrived in cinemas. The star will begin shoot for the project in 2022.
