    Amid positive reviews from film critics and audiences, netizens have given a call for sending the Kannada thriller Kantara as India’s official entry for Oscars or Academy Award nominations in 2023. The hashtag #KantaraForOscars has been trending on Twitter.

    Ever since Rishab Shetty and Sapthami Gowda-starrer released on September 30, the film has only received appreciation all across the country. The film’s dubbed versions were released last week in Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi.“Kantara has the highest ratings in UAE and Arabic GCC theatres. A rich Indian culture movie with a great plot, screenplay, and performance. With all my support, it deserves to reach the Oscars. It’s a divine Blockbuster!”, said a Twitter user.

    Film trade Ramesh Bala also vouched for the movie and observed that it had the credibility to become India’s entry in next year’s Oscars. "Well made with a lot of nativity and technical brilliance and wonderful performances by the lead cast,” Bala tweeted. Another micro-blogging site user said, “#Kantara certainly has great potential for a worldwide release and applaud. Films like these certainly deserve an Oscar," said a fan.

The movie has already grossed over Rs 60 crore in Karnataka. The Hindi version of the movie has earned over Rs 10 crore so far this week.

    Meanwhile, Kantara has topped IMDb’s recent list of ‘India’s Current Top 250 Films.’ The list also features some of India’s beloved movies including, Suriya’s Jai Bhim, and Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots to name a few. The ranking of the films is subject to change based on the votes they receive on IMDb’s website. “Regularly updated, the IMDb Top 250 is a collection of the most loved & highest-rated Indian films by fans. This list is as of 17th October 2022,” tweeted IMDb on Monday.
