After much anticipation, Parvathy Thiruvothu and Urvashi’s mystery thriller Ullozhukku has finally hit the big screens. The film, directed by Christo Tomy, revolves around a family living in Kuttanad, Kerala, who are forced to postpone the funeral of a family member due to heavy rains and flooding. During this period, many secrets of the family emerge, which shake the very foundation of the family's trust. The movie received an overwhelming response after the premiere and that seems to have continued with the first-day first-show (FDFS) reviews.

Many users took to their handles to hail the incredible performances of the leading ladies, Urvashi and Pravathy. Many are in awe of Urvashi’s screen presence and have praised the versatile actress for the gripping performance she delivered. One user commented, “We need to find a word bigger than Legend for Urvashi because the entire movie is run on her close-ups. Her chin quiver, face quiver, cries and tears gulping ufff my heart.”

Audiences particularly praised director Christo Tomy for making an enthralling feature film debut. The director, who had earlier helmed short films, is well known for his Netflix documentary series Curry and Cyanide: The Jolly Joseph Case.

One user wrote, “@christotomy has hit it out of the park with his first feature film. Such a subject can easily be done in a slow, laggy format and yet garner acclaim, but Christo makes us fully invested in the journey of his characters with his super sharp narrative and pacing. That's surely the sign of a solid filmmaker who knows his job damn well.”

    Rave reviews for Ullozhukku

Sushin Shyam, who has composed the background score and soundtrack for the film, has once again captivated audiences by elevating the mystery thriller’s experience on the big screen. “Sushin Shyam, you are the biggest asset in the Malayalam film industry! His background score is pure genius,” another user wrote.

Overall, the film has been receiving rave reviews and it looks like Ullozhukku has indeed quenched the thirst for a worthy women-centric film in 2024.

Besides the lead cast, the film also stars Shebin Benson, Arjun Radhakrishnan, Veena Nair, and Alencier Ley Lopez in key roles.
