Varun Dhawan and filmmaker Atlee to team up for Hindi remake of a South film
Actor Varun Dhawan and South filmmaker Atlee have teamed up for the Hindi remake of a South film.
A source close to ETimes has said, "Varun has met Atlee and they will soon be working together on the Hindi remake of a South film. There's a good chance that the film may be Vijay and Samantha starrer 'Theri'."
Helmed by Atlee, Theri is a Tamil-language action-thriller that was released in 2016. The film revolves around a local baker Joseph Kuruvilla played by Thalapathy Vijay whose past resurfaces as his young daughter's life is put in danger by a local gang. The film was a commercial success and became one of the highest grossing movies in Tamil cinema.
Earlier too, there were rumours making the rounds about Varun being approached for Theri’s remake film. However, not much was revealed then. With the latest update, it looks like, the film is finally nearing its fruition.
The recent development seems to only expand the collaboration of Hindi and South cinema. To note, Atlee is also working on an action-packed drama with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan . Bankrolled by Red Chillies Entertainment , the film will apparently feature the superstar in a double role of that of a father and son.
Talking about Varun, he has his calendar full-packed for the next two years. The actor has Jug Jugg Jeeyo and Bhediya in the kitty. He has also signed up for a movie with Rajkumar Hirani production. A source told Pinkvilla that both of them will be collaborating for a film based on a true story written by Rajkumar himself. It is expected to go on floors this year.
