1920 actor Adah Sharma: Too early to judge my career in Hindi films

Adah Sharma made her debut in the Hindi film industry with 1920 (2008), followed by Phhir (2011) and Hasee Toh Phasee (2014) and has also been a part of regional movies including five Telugu films. She is happy to juggle between both the industries and feels “film-makers want actors to succeed” regardless of the language.

“My debut 1920 was a brilliant role. I have to say I haven’t done that many Hindi films yet as I got better opportunities in regional films. I think it’s too early to judge my career in Hindi films. I need to do more Hindi movies. With my new film, Commando 2, you won’t feel like you are watching the same person you saw in 1920.”

Speaking about the equation she shares with her co-star Vidyut Jammwal, Adah admits that she had a lot of fun working with him. “We became good friends while working together. We are both quite mad and we understand each other’s madness. Our chemistry in real life is good, which works for the film. Deven Bhojani (director) has kept the drama, chemistry and my character’s Hyderabadi accent quite subtle in the film. I have never had so much fun on an outdoor location. We had to travel three hours from our hotel and back so we bonded well with the crew,” she says.

Working in an action film where the hero usually has an author backed role didn’t concern Adah as she felt secure enough. “People have loved my performance in 1920, Heart Attack (2014; Telugu) or Kshanam (2016; Telugu). I wanted to go beyond these roles. My role in Commando 2 has a humorous side, which is a first for me. It’s a fantastic role and the audiences too will love this quirky and weird character. She is not interested in the mission to recover black money, and only wants to shop and click photos of her trip abroad.”
