A teaser of Mohanlal’s new film 1971 Beyond Borders was unveiled on Thursday. The 34-second teaser opens with a rural festival in full flow which is abruptly interrupted as Mohanlal calls out to someone. Cut to next scene where we see tanks moving in and charging soldiers.

1971 Beyond Borders is part of a Major Mahadevan series by the actor. The film also marks Mohanlal’s fourth collaboration with director Major Ravi. Mohanlal has in the past played two popular army officer roles, namely 2009 film Kirthi Chakra and 2008 film Kurukshetra.

1971 Beyond Borders is a prequel to Kurukshetra. Based on the true events of the 1971 India-Pakistan war, Mohanlal will appear in a double role, playing Major Mahadevan and as his dad Colonel Sahadevan.

Major portions of the film have been shot in Rajasthan. Huge sets resembling army camps and bunkers were created by art director Salu K George. Some parts of the film were shot in Ottapaalam and Pattambi in Kerala.

Mohanlal has had a great run at the box office with last three films -- Oppam, Pulimurugan Murugan, Munthirivallikal Thalirkkumbol - all hitting the jackpot.
