9 times when Aamir Khan changed his look for a film

When it’s Aamir Khan, you can always expect a surprise. The actor never fails to impress the audience, not just with his performances and choice of films but also with his looks in them. He’s known to have gone to great lengths to get the right look for his character. A case in point is his last film Dangal where he added and lost kilos within a matter of months just so that he could portray both a young and middle-aged wrestler in the film. Here are a few looks from his bouquet of work that got everyone talking:

Secret Superstar (2017)

When the look of this upcoming film, Secret Superstar went viral, fans loved the way Aamir looked in it. He experimented with a variation of a Van Dyke beard and teamed it up with a handlebar moustache in the film. What catches our fancy is the accessory that he sports on the head in the film that features his Dangal co-star, Zaira Wasim, as an aspiring singer. As per reports, he will be seen as someone who mentors Wasim in the film.

Dangal (2016)

Khan pulled of the roles of the elderly and the young wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat very convincingly. While he put on about 22-25 kilos to look the part as the older Phogat, his salt and pepper hair and stubble added to the look. Interestingly, the actor then lost the extra weight to reprise the role of Phogat in his younger days.

PK (2014)

After experimenting with various looks, Khan finally zeroed in on the popping ears and flat hair look for the film. The actor played a humanoid alien in this Rajkumar Hirani directorial. Not to forget his weird expression that matched well with the character.

Ghajini (2008)

In this action-packed thriller AK’s eight-pack abs became the talk of the town. Reportedly the actor took over a year to get the perfect look for this remake of the Tamil film of the same name. He even made the stroked close crew cut look sexy on screen.

Fanaa (2006)

Mr Perfectionist went ahead with the wavy long hair look in the Kunal Kohli film. He also sported scarves to add to the feel of the casanova tour guide Rehan Qadri. For the later half, where he was an army officer, Aamir played down on his look and took inspiration from real soldiers.

Rang De Basanti (2006)

Aamir Khan’s slightly long and messy hair in the film suited his Punjabi character, Daljit ‘DJ’ Singh, a Delhi University student. The actor sported colourful jackets, funky shirts and tees that complemented his character. He even learnt Punjabi for the role.

Mangal Pandey: The Rising (2005)

His thick moustache and really long hair that he grew for the role of Indian soldier, Mangal Pandey, got him the accolades. The actor wanted a look that would aptly portray the pre-independent era in which the film was based. Like always, he took time to finalise it and obviously got it right.

Dil Chahta Hai (2001)

His female fans went gaga over the suave and sexy look Khan donned in this Farhan Akhtar film that also starred Saif Ali Khan and Akshaye Khanna. Aamir’s cute goatee and spiky-short hair was loved by everyone. The goatee was an instant hit and had many takers among the young generation.

Lagaan: Once Upon a Time in India (2001)

Aamir played the role of a villager Bhuvan in this periodical saga. And it goes without saying how impeccably the actor carried off the front-open sleeveless khadi shirt-cum-jacket with dhoti and gamcha. He also pierced his ears to wear earrings for the film. By Aamir’s own confession, he borrowed the earrings from his now wife Kiran Rao, who was an assistant director in the film, because he thought that the silver earrings she was wearing would go well with his overall look.
