Aalaporaan Thamizhan:AR Rahman’s first single from Vijay’s Mersal is high on beats

The wait is finally over! The first single from Mersal -- Aalaporaan Thamizhan -- is out. The song was shared on Saavn and has been trending on Twitter since.

As the teaser promised, the song is high on beats yet has its lyrical stretches. In typical AR Rahman style, it moves from a beats-intensive tempo to soft lilting melodious moments in a seamless fashion.

Featuring several vocalists -- Kailash Kher, AV Pooja, Deepak, AR Rahman and D Sathyaprakash -- the song has a certain ‘mass appeal’ feel to it. People have been commenting on it, calling it “pukka mass” to “awesome song”.

Sharing the song on Twitter, industry tracker Ramesh Bala said that the song has “peppy beats” and has a “scope for dance”.

Fans were in raptures listening to the song.

Mersal Hussain said it was “A proud salute to Mersal Team , especially @Lyricist_Vivek for this grandeur lyrics of Tamil language”.

Gemini Rajah commented that he cried listening to it. Here’s what he wrote on Twitter: “#AalaporaanThamizhan dono why but while hearing this song goosebumps, water coming in ma eyes, proud ????????tamilandaaaa.”

VB has this to say: “#AalaporaanThamizhan - powerful lyric & mass music!! Theatre adhira poguthu!!! Cant wait!!”

Mersal stars Ilayathalapathy Vijay, who will be seen in three difference avatars. He will play a panchayat head, a magician and a farmer. While the first and second looks were shared a while back, the third one was shared on Wednesday. In one of his earlier looks, Vijay is seen donning a traditional garb and twirls his moustache. The poster shows him with the backdrop of Jallikattu, and many are reading it as a reference to the controversy in January regarding the popular sport. The second look shows him as a magician, a role for which he apparently took some lessons. The latest poster shows him playing Holi.

Mersal also stars Kajal Aggarwal, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Nithya Menen. It has been directed by Atlee and is set for a grand release during Diwali.
